Landing pages can increase sales and revenue.

In marketing there are tips and tricks to help people become a potential customer and customer. It’s an area that’s been heavily researched, which is why there are so many documented best practices. One of the best ways to get potential customers, also known as prospects, is a landing page.

What’s a landing page and why should you care?

A landing page is a webpage, on the World Wide Web or Internet, that enables people to perform an action — either to sign up for something (such as a newsletter or get an eBook) or ask you to contact them.

Qualities of a landing page

Landing pages have:

  • A general description about what they’re getting
  • Information about you — who you are and what you do
  • A form that collects information
  • A button where they can submit their information
  • A thank you, after people have submitted their information

The people who get to your landing page are opportunities — potential customers ready for more information or considering your products and services.

These opportunities is how you close deals and increase sales. That’s why they’re so important.

1. Ensure it’s well-branded

Landing pages, whether incorporated within your website or not, look like your brand and sound like your brand. They include your:

  • Logos
  • Color palettes
  • Fonts
  • Images — either your stock photography or photos of you and your customers
  • Information — about you, your company, and what sets you apart

In fact, the more it seems like you — and that it’s for your customers — the better.

2. Have a powerful call to action

What’s a call to action? It’s wording that compels someone to click on a button, giving you information.

If the landing page is enabling someone to sign up for your newsletter, the language on that page should interest them in getting your newsletter. But the button — the call to action — is the most important part.

We recommend you:

  • Use action verbs words. Why? They’re easier to read and act on. Don’t be too wordy — punchy and correct is good. Here are a few ideas to get your started.

  • Tell people what they’re doing or what they’re getting when they click the button. For example, are they registering for a webinar? Learning more about your services? They need to know.
  • Use a button color that begs to be pressed. Typically the best button colors are red, pink, and orange.  They capture attention!
  • Use a consistent font and capitalization. Using all uppercase, for example, is fine as long as you keep it consistent.

3. Keep the form short and sweet

Everyone wants to collect as much information as possible. But the more fields you include, the more cumbersome it is to complete and the less likely someone is going to do so. Only collect the information you absolutely need.

In general we recommend three fields to ensure it’s completed.

4. Add your simple form “above the fold.”

Enable people to fill out your form without scrolling down the page. The more people scroll, the less likely they are to see your form. For example, instead of putting it at the bottom, consider adding it toward the top.

5. Include privacy information or other qualifiers.

If you don’t sell customer lists or share them, tell people. If they’re getting something free, let them know again. The more you can reassure someone, the more apt they’ll give you information.

Having the right landing page can ensure you get new potential customers as well as paying customers. SwiftAgent makes it simple to create a landing page that collects information and converts.
